Three Spanish institutions have developed new "RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp)" or "OGP10-14 (Tyr-Gly-Phe-Gly-Gly)" nonpeptide mimetic materials capable to attach to the surface of biomaterials by a single “click” chemical operation. The peptidomimetics bound in this way are stable and do not degrade under physiological conditions. They are particularly useful for medical devices, endosseous implants, or for tissue engineering applications. Companies for license agreement and further development are sought.

A spanish research organization has developed a method to asses disease activity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on measurement of phosphorylation status on a particular aminoacid of p38 protein. They have shown that this modification was higher in T cells (type of lymphocytes) from patients with active RA than in patients with RA in remission or in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Industrial partners focused on developing RA diagnostics are being sought to license the technology.

Two public research organisations and a university from Spain have designed a device to measure the volume of body fluids of a patient, with the characteristic that the processes involved (flux measurement and emptying of the receptor) are fully automathised and require no human supervision. Additionally, no actuator is employed, thus no external energy is needed. Partners interested in a patent license are being sought.

A Dutch company offers a highly accurate electro plasma based polishing process for metals and alloys. As no mechanical stress is applied on the surface, the process is suitable for peculiar shaped and delicate high-accuracy mechanical parts of medium size to small and micron scale. The material removal rate is very low so final results are predictable before starting the process. The Dutch company is interested in commercial agreements with technical assistance with partners in medical industry

A Spanish research entity has developed a walker adjustable in size that allows sitting down, standing up and other user support intelligent functions. The walker assures adequate stability to users with great motor limitations and makes possible its use for daily activities. Besides, it has an embedded system to control speed and braking that allows programming reacting actions to expected or unexpected movements. Partners interested in a patent license are being sought.

A UK University has developed an advanced therapeutic dressing (drug loaded) that takes an active part in the wound healing process providing a faster, cost effective and potential complete healing of chronic ulcerated wounds than is currently possible. Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry partners with interests in advanced wound dressings are sought (joint development) i) to undertake in-vivo testing using suitable animal wound models and ii) for product prototyping for clinical trials

A novel proprietary assay suitable for both cGMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate) or cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) specific PDE activity measurement for in vitro determination of any PDE enzyme activity has been developed by a Hungarian university. The assay can be used to reliably measure PDE inhibitors in a wide range including simple water soluble components and also lipophilic compounds or natural extracts. Partners for licence agreement, and commercial cooperation are awaited.

A Dutch university developed a method for the production of nanoparticles of a wide variety of metals, metal oxides and alloys. The technology enables to create small, clean, highly pure and active nanoparticles. The method is simple, robust, cheap and fast. The number of synthetic steps is minimized and no additional purification steps are needed. The university is seeking industrial partners interested in a licence agreement and joint further development.

A spin off company of a leading Dutch university of technology developed a system that combines the functional information from fluorescence microscopy with structural information from the scanning electron microscope. This enables to do high-throughput correlative microscopy with high overlay precision for research on e.g. tissue biology, cell biology and biomaterials. The Dutch company is interested in commercial agreements with technical assistance with industrial partners and academia.

A French research Institute has developed new class of lipid vector for intracellular vaccination using DNA molecule coding for the antigen of asthma. The aim is to produce a prophylactic or therapeutic vaccine. The vaccine administration in animal model led to a reduction of airway hyperresponsiveness and a significant decrease of inflammatory cytokines in the bronchoalveolar lavage. Industrial partners are sought in order to co-develop asthma and rhinitis allergy applications.
